Volvo Penta names winner in Boating Dreams Contest

Travis Christ of Charleston, S.C., won Volvo Penta of the Americas’ Boating Dreams contest, a social media promotion that asked customers to post their dreams and aspirations of spending time on the water.

Christ won a Chevrolet Silverado pickup and was given the keys during a celebration at Duncan’s Boats in North Charleston that featured the West Ashley High School marching band.

“Volvo Penta is proud of the role we play in creating lasting memories on the water for our customers,” Ron Huibers, president of Volvo Penta of the Americas, said in a statement. “It’s one of the things we love about our jobs, tying into our Easy Boating initiative — to make boating easier and more accessible for people to enjoy.”

Christ has a Regal 28 powered by a Volvo Penta V8-350. In his entry, he wrote that boating has shaped his family’s time together and opened new ways for members to connect and meet new friends as well.

“We’re so pleased that we chose to invest in a boat and add that unexpected dimension to our lives,” said Christ in his submission. “We’re looking forward to years of unexplored ideas and opportunities to bring our family and friends closer together in ways that we didn’t think were possible, thanks to Volvo Penta.”

Volvo Penta launched its inaugural Boating Dreams social media contest last March. To qualify, customers completed an online form and submitted their stories in 500 words or less. They were then entered in a drawing to win the truck donated by General Motors. The company said it received 223 entries.

Duncan’s Boats promoted the Boating Dreams contest with banners and displays in the store and encouraged customers to submit their dreams. Christ’s submission can be viewed at www.volvopenta.us/shareyourdream.
