John Deere Power Systems’ 6.8-liter 6068SFM75 diesel has a power range from 249 hp to 400 hp.

The six-cylinder electronically controlled engine joins the PowerTech 6090SFM75 at 550 hp and the 6135SFM75 at 750 hp to complete the manufacturer’s high-horsepower marine engine lineup. The Tier II 6068SFM75 is 9 inches narrower than its predecessor. “Customers have been asking us for an engine that is more compact,” says Dave Flaherty, John Deere Power Systems’ marine marketing manager. The turbocharged and air-to-seawater after-cooled engine is ideal for sportfishing and cruising boats from 30 to 60 feet, Flaherty says. The engine also is a good choice for repowering projects, he says. “Our traditional customers are trawler yacht guys, so it’s a big difference to go from those boats to boats that are intended to go fast,” he says.
