Latitude Yacht Brokerage of Newport, R.I., named industry veteran Tom Miller as its newest broker.

The brokerage said Miller has captained all types of vessels and managed service work at full-service boatyards.

Miller grew up sailing in Watch Hill, R.I., spending summers cruising up the coast as far as Maine with his family. He earned a business management and information systems degree at the University of Rhode Island and painted bottoms, varnished classics and assisted in repairs at a full-service marina during the summers, according to Latitude.

After graduating, he worked as a deckhand on the 1930s America’s Cup J-Class classic Shamrock V, which led to crewing on other yachts. He got his captain’s credentials and ran yachts as far south as the Caribbean and to the Mediterranean.

He then served as a sail and power service manager in Portsmouth, R.I., for Hinckley Yacht Services, and later headed the jetboat service department at its Mantaloking, N.J., facility.
