The award program recognized 130 women, including employees of Boston Whaler, ZF North America, Cummins and Newport News Shipbuilding.
The Alaska senator showed her support for the industry and the facility, which helps launch marine careers.
More schools are receiving outboards through the program, so students “will be better prepared to enter the workforce.”
The first 10 apprentices completed the course last week.
Adults 18-22 are more likely to have had a counselor suggest a career in manufacturing than recent generations.
Instruction will be part of school’s powersports program.
